The Gaming Cranny

Being forty something, I absolutely dont spend my waking life outside of being a mum and doing housework “remembering” the 90’s and 00’s.

Of course thats what I do, my last obsession after finally sorting out daughter 2’s bedroom was to have “music” be that big part of my life it used to be back then.. Real music, not streamed from my phone and interrupted by every alert or message or moment of weak willed doomscrool. Music you can bite.

So I took my Minidiscs out of storage, cleaned up my portables, and bought some new players and amps to enjoy the purposeful feel of “putting something on”.

Anyway cut to months later, I can’t work from home 100% and have to go back to the office so my home office needs a touchup and making cosey. Someone shares a retro gaming corner they made on discord and a new obsession is born!

My own Gaming Crannyâ„¢

The workplace and dumping zone becomes.

A funky little corner for after work to chill with my daughters.

Now all that was left was to find what retro devices I “need”. Obviously Dreamcast, but I assume, and hear, that you really want a CRT for maximum enjoyment, and all I have is a very old Plasma TV spare, so I start with PS3, Wii, and then Gamecube. All devices I had owned and sold in the past when money was tight.

The final touch was to add a Hue Sync box so I can use the cranny with some leftover hue lighting I have from a prior obsession 😀

And with that compulsive thought excised, my thoughts turn to other Retro choices. I had, in the past tried an AnbernicRg35xx and a raspberry Pi with Retroarch. But they both missed something, not quite that nice “feel” I was looking for.

But what would?

Having followed this build from the beginning, I’m loving seeing you write about it.

I can’t wait for the next part.
